With a large portion of the student body of MAST@FIU being MSO (My School Online), many student activities and affairs have been modified to accommodate these students while simultaneously stopping the spread of the coronavirus. So, while school clubs are strictly virtual as of now, members and facilitators of clubs are navigating their way through these transitions and making the most of it.
Men of MAST, the sports club here at MAST@FIU, just had a virtual meeting last week on Thursday, November 11. They played Brawlhalla, which is a free 2D, online game. The following quote is from Senior Schadrack Cineas, president of Men of MAST: “Last week we had a Brawlhalla gaming tournament. I, myself, was not good at the game, but we all still had a lot of fun playing and watching. It obviously wasn’t like playing physical sports, but it was still competitive, fun, and interactive.” It is amazing to see club members continue to find ways to interact with each other and truly make the most out of this situation.
Just recently, as a member of the club, attended a virtual Key Club Meeting. The Board Members were able to give a very detailed presentation on what they wished to communicate with just like any other meeting. They even found ways we can give back to the community while continuing to socially distance. Our most recently discussed project is our collaboration with Periodically. Periodically is a project run by a MAST@FIU Senior student, Maya Baker. It is aimed at educating women about menstruation, breaking the stigma around menstruation, and providing menstrual hygiene products to those in need. Key Club has partnered with Periodically to hold a menstrual product drive to donate the products to women in need.
