Being a leader and a role model in this day and age is challenging, especially as a high school student. But two MAST@FIU soon-to-be graduates, Brunella Fernandez and Laura Sandoval, have stood up and marked their place as leaders in the 2021 Young Women of Distinct Cohort award ceremony. This event, consisting of 5 of North Miami Beach’s rising stars, was held to congratulate these talented young leaders on their mission to make the world a better place.
Two of these ladies included MAST@FIU’s Laura Sandoval and Brunella Fernandez. The young women of distinction entered a five-week program consisting of zoom meetings with empowering women and lessons on leadership development and skills. Both have given their all to learning about their community and gaining valuable experience to go above and beyond in the near future. “Being part of this cohort was an incredibly rewarding experience. I got to learn more about my community in NMB and how to give back”, said Laura Sandoval about her experience with the cohort.
Brunella Fernandez also participated in the program. Being pinned by North Miami Beach Commissioner Daniela Jean, Brunella talks about her overall experience with the cohort. “The overall experience of the Young Women of Distinction Cohort was truly valuable. I have created new friendships and connections with such amazing people from my own community”.
Having been allowed to work with many individuals with extensive leadership traits, Laura and Brunella have enhanced their leadership skills and are empowered to change this ever-growing community. “This program has offered me great enlightenment into the real world, and I am beyond grateful,” says Brunella on the cohort. These two ladies, along with four other talented and aspiring individuals, have shown this district and community the value of leadership and can pave the way for the world’s future influencers.
