SEACORPS celebrated Earth Day with a weeklong challenge known as the Earth Week Challenge the week of April 19-25. Their goal to inform themselves and others on specific initiatives to take when it comes to sustaining the future of this planet.
For each day of the week, there was a general theme. The themes were Meatless Monday, Transportation Tuesday, Water Wednesday, Trashy Thursday, Civic Friday, Shop Green Saturday, and Nature Sunday. Keeping the theme of the day in mind, SEACORPS students filmed short videos of themselves talking about its importance and how they practice being more environmentally conscious regarding the theme and sharing any tips that they may have! For example, on day 2 (Transportation Tuesday) of the challenge, SEACORPS student, Victoria Lippert, shared some facts and statistics on the effects of transportation via automobiles and, in turn, showed an environmentally beneficial alternative to this and even filmed herself incorporating this alternative method in her daily activities! These fun little videos not only encourage others to learn how they can improve their habits, but it is also a self-incentive to further one's knowledge! While this seven-day challenge did not have any physical prize or award, the real prize was the invaluable knowledge gained on how to improve our lifestyles sustainably and the pride of sharing this information with others!
